Abstract
887,160. Angular bending. DARD, L. Aug. 23, 1960 [March 3, 1960], No. 29171/60. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for bending tubes, rods and the like, either by press-bending or by wrapping on a former, comprises a one-piece connecting member in the shape of a stirrup of which the base is provided with means for connection to a ram or other load-applying means and of which the end of each arm is provided with connection means, and a pair of crosspieces each formed with apertures to engage the connection means on one arm with the cross - piece extending transversely of that arm or alternatively at will in alignment with that arm, the apertures also serving to support bending tools. A connecting member 1 is screwed at 3 to an end flange 4 of ram means 5. Upper and lower arms 6, 7 of the connecting means have pairs of studs 8, 9 respectively upstanding from their outer ends. Upper and lower crosspieces 10, 11 are provided with longitudinal series of apertures 12, 14, respectively, and also with a pair of apertures 13, 15 arranged transversely at one end of each cross-piece, the lower cross-piece 11 also having at each end a foot of a height equal to the thickness of the lower arm 7. To bend a tube by pressing, Fig. 1, the cross-pieces 10, 11 are arranged transversely on the ends of the arms 6, 7 with abutment members 24 having spindles 25 engaged in appropriate apertures 12, 14 of the cross-pieces. The upper cross-piece 10 is locked in position by a pivoted member 18 and a tube is bent between the abutments 24 by a former on a thrust rod 22 of the ram means 5. Alternatively in another set-up, Fig. 3, a tube 36 is held at one end at 37 to a former 34 pivoted at 33 between the crosspieces 10 and 11 which in this case are arranged to extend in alignment with the arms 6, 7 of the connecting member 1, the studs 8, 9 engaging the apertures 13, 15. The thrust rod 22 is fitted with a yoke 27, guided by lugs 30 along the lower cross-piece 11, carrying a roller 32 bearing, through a block 35, on the tube 36. Pressure from the roller 32 rotates the former 34 and bends the tube 36 therearound. Alternatively, Fig. 5, a former 34a may be carried by the yoke 27 and the roller 32 by the cross-pieces 10, 11. An alternative form of connecting member 1, Fig. 10, has a threaded aperture 3a, to engage the ram means, above the plane of the upper arm 6a, pillars 42 being provided between the upper arm 6a and the lower arm 7a.
