886,981. Valves. MACHINEFABRIEK F. SMULDERS, N. V. Oct. 7, 1959 [Oct. 7, 1958], No. 33967/59. Class 135. To prevent distortion of a valve casing from affecting the close fit between a slide valve member 1 and the bore in which it slides the latter is formed in a liner 4 which has radial clearance in a bore in the casing and elastic packing rings 14 to occupy such clearance Two packing rings 14 are mounted on each of a pair of lands separating an inlet port 7 from motor ports 8, 9 and the space between each pair of rings is vented to low pressure by an annular groove 15 and passage (not shown). A single packing ring is mounted on each end land of the liner to seal the motor ports from exhaust chambers 12 at each end of the valve. The valve member, which has a pair of lands 2, is actuated by a piston 20 under the control of a pilot valve 19. A number of similar valves may be bolted together. The clearance between the lands on either side of the inlet port 7 and the lands of the valve member may be arranged to increase or decrease towards the ports 8, 9.
