[Also in Groups XXV and XXVIII] A connecting device comprises a stud 1, Fig. 2, having left and right-hand screw threads 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>2</SP> for engagement with screw-threaded blocks 2, 3 one of which fixed in, but is not integral with, a tube a or b, Fig. 1, in such a manner that it remains in a fixed location relative to the tube when the stud 1 is rotated. The blocks 2, 3, can be fitted in tubes arranged in X formation with a shaped spacer 4 between the tubes, the block 3 being secured by welding or crimping in the tube b, or the blocks can be formed with grooves into which the tubes are indented after assembly. In another embodiment Fig. 5, the blocks are formed with flanges 5 which are provided with interlocking projections, or in a modification the flanges are formed with ridges, projections or grooves to grip a washer e.g. nylon, therebetween. In Fig. 12 an angle piece m is welded to a block 3. In a further embodiment, Fig. 14, the stud has a polygonal flange 1<SP>4</SP> which engages a similarly formed bore in an axially-displaceable driving sleeve 6 which may be formed with flats for a spanner or holes for a pin, the blocks 7, 8 are welded in the ends of thin-walled tubes d, e, e.g. of aluminium, which abut the sleeve 6 when the stud is tightened. The ends of the sleeve 6 may be provided with slight protrusions. In a further embodiment, Fig. 18, the end of a thin-walled tube g is secured between conical surfaces on the outside of a ring 11 and the inside of a recessed block 10. In Fig. 24, the connecting devices secure a tube h to fixed tubes i, j. Before positioning each stud 12 Fig. 20, is pressed into the tube h against a spring 17 and is released when aligned with its associated block 18 in the tubes i, j. The adjacent outer surface of the tube h and a sleeve 13 are formed for engagement by a spanner whereby the sleeve 13 is rotated in order to screw the stud into the block 18, the polygonal portion 12<SP>4</SP> sliding along a correspondingly profiled bore in the sleeve 13. The sleeve 13 is rotatably mounted in the bore of a sleeve 14 which is formed with an hexagonal cross-section over a length 14<SP>2</SP> in which slides a nut 15 engaged by the screw-threading 12<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 26, the tube 19 has a slot 19<SP>1</SP> along which a block 22, engaged by a screw-threaded stud 20<SP>2</SP>, is slidable in order to vary the position of a tube k and in a modification the tube 19 may be replaced by two troughs to form diametrically opposed slots, along each of which perpendicularly-mounted tubes are slidable. The slots 19<SP>1</SP> and holes a, Fig. 1, may be masked with strips or buttons of synthetic plastic.
