Abstract

A vaccine against infectious hog paralysis is obtained by inoculating pig kidney cultures in a suitable medium with poliomyelitis serum virus subtype konratice, purifying the virus yield by treatment with chloroform and adsorbing the thus purified virus on aluminium hydroxide. For the preparation of a dead vaccine, the virus is given 80-120 serial passages prior to the chloroform and adsorption treatment and is then inactivated with formaldehyde. In the case of a live vaccine for oral and parenteral use, at least 300 serial passages are required prior to the chloroform and adsorption step. The virus medium for the pig kidney tissue is pure bovine amniotic fluid.
