Abstract

886,902. Purifying gases. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., HEINRICH. Jan. 30, 1958 [Feb. 5, 1957], No. 3169/58. Class 55 (2). Hot combustible gas, derived from the gasification of finely-divided fuels, is injected with sludge water at 12, which has a lower temperature than the gas and contains in suspension some of the soot removed from previously treated gas, the gas then being passed into a bath 10 of sludge water, agitated by a stirrer 11, and finally washed with clarified sludge water and pure water. The gas from producer 3 passes through a radiation boiler 6, tube boiler 7 and pipe 8 to be sprayed at 12 before entering the bath 10. The gas is then sprayed at 14 with clarified sludge water before entering a column in which it is alternately sprayed with clarified sludge water at 17, 24 and passed through sludgy water at 18, 23. The gas is finally washed with pure water supplied through a pipe 31 to a scrubber 30. Additional quantities of clarified sludge water are supplied through nozzles 32 into the lower part of the scrubber 30. In a modification the gas is passed through a rotary gas scrubber supplied with fresh and/or partially clarified sludge water after passing through the sludge bath.
