Abstract

886,761. Packaging materials. SCHINDLER & CO., JACQUES. April 22, 1958 [April 25, 1957 ; June 4, 1957], No. 12772/58. Class 140. A packaging material comprises a paper base, one surface of which has been made hydrophilic, this surface being coated with a synthetic thermoplastic synthetic material impermeable to water-vapour and fats and to light and containing powdered metal and titanium dioxide, followed by a layer consisting of chlorinated rubber and a synthetic resin and, finally, a layer of synthetic thermoplastic material of a hardness greater than that of any of the other layers. The resin layers are applied as aqueous dispersions, the water being removed and the resin cured by heat. The paper may be rendered hydrophilic by impregnation with the sodium salt of an alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acid and the ammonium salt of a polyacrylic acid of low viscosity. Fig. 1 shows a paper base 11; an impregnation layer 12; a coating of polyvinyl chloride or polyvinylidene chloride 13 in which is embedded titanium dioxide and aluminium bronze free of fat and gas, and, possibly, carbon black; a layer of chlorinated rubber and synthetic resin 14. A hard top layer 15 of polyvinyl chloride or polyvinylidene chloride with a hardness greater than that of the layers below.
