Abstract

The surface of a body of fluorine substituted polyethylene is made adhesive retentive by fusion of the surface with an adhesive receptive synthetic or natural polymeric or resinous material other than an elastomer or a mixture of elastomer and fluorine substituted polyethylene. Specified adhesive receptive materials are epoxy, polyamide, silicone, silicone epoxy, polyester, and phenolic resins, synthetic rubber, urethane, and colloidal silica, which may be applied as solutions in methyl ethyl ketone and cyclohexane. The treated surfaces may then be coated with adhesive substances including pressure - sensitive adhesives. Specification 790,018 also is referred to.
