Abstract

The invention comprises a - and b -tetrahydrogibberellic acid having the formulae <FORM:0886478/IV (b)/1> salts thereof, and a process for the preparation thereof by reduction of gibberellic acid. Reduction may be effected with hydrazine, with hydrogen in the presence of a metal catalyst or by hydrogen transfer from cyclohexene or cyclohexadiene in the presence of palladium black in boiling tetrahydrofuran. During the catalytic reduction a -dihydrogibberellic acid is formed simultaneously. Salts are formed with ammonium alkali metal and alkaline earth metal bases.
