Abstract

886,385. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. Ltd. June 15, 1960 [June 30, 1959], No. 22451/59. Class 135. A thermostatically controlled gas valve 13 is combined with a manuallyoperable cock 3, the range setting of the thermostatic means being adjusted by the same manually-operable member 1 as that for controlling the cock; and the member 1 comprises a spring-loaded spindle having a pin and slot connection 2, 8 with one end of the cock and the other end of the cock has a pin and slot connection 18, 19 to the range-setting mechanism of the thermostatic means. As shown, the valve member 13 is provided with a cam surface 28 urged by a spring 29 into contact with a pin 27 provided in an axially slidable shaft 20, the valve being prevented from rotational movement by a pin and slot device 16, 17. One end of the shaft abuts an adjustable stop 26 screwed into a block 25 which is connected to a bellowstype capsule 21, the interior of the latter communicating via a capillary tube 22 with a heatsensitive element. The opposite end of the shaft engages via the pin 19 with the slot 18 formed in the end of the cock 3 which is rotatable via the pin-and-slot connection 2, 8 by the spindle 1. In operation, after the cock has been rotated from the closed position to the open position shown, further rotation of the spindle 1 then causes the pin 27 to ride on the cam surface 28 and thus vary the position of the valve 13 in relation to its seat; continued communication between the inlet 10 and the valve 13 during this further rotation is provided by a partcircumferential passage 11. The bellows-type capsule 21 may be replaced by a rod-and-tube element. Specification 884,512 is referred to.
