Abstract

The invention comprises: (a) tropinium and #Y-tropinium compounds of the general formulae (F/1> (including both epimeric forms with respect to the nitrogen atom) wherein R represents an alkyl radical, X an alkylene, alkenylene, arylene or aralkylene group, Y an organic monocarboxylic acyl radical and Z- a halogen ion, and n is 2 or 3; (b) the preparation of compounds I by reacting an organic monocarboxylic acid ester of tropine or #Y-tropine, or of nortropine, with an alkylene halohydrin Z(CH2)nOH, followed, in the last instance, by quaternation with an alkyl halide; (c) the preparation of compounds II by reacting a compound I with a dichloride of an organic dicarboxylic acid HOOC-X-COOH. The products have neuro-muscular blocking properties. 3a -Phenylacetoxynortropane and its 8-ethyl, 8-n-propyl and 8-n-butyl derivatives are prepared by heating the hydrochlorides of the corresponding 3a -hydroxy compounds with phenylacetyl chloride.
