Abstract
885,685. Automatic control systems for electricity supplies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 4, 1959 [June 30, 1958], No. 20866/58. Class 38 (4). In an automatic control system a load is connected to the input or rectified output of an oscillator and a parameter of the power supplied to the load is stabilized by varying, through an amplifier, the emitter-collector impedance of a transistor connected between a direct-current source and the input of the oscillator. In an embodiment, an oscillator 2 having a rectified output is supplied via a transistorized stabilizing arrangement 1 from a source connected to terminals 12, 13. The oscillator 2 comprises bridgeconnected transistors 14-17 having emitterbase feedback applied from windings 20-23 of a transformer 19. The square-wave voltage across a secondary 30 is fed to output terminals 33, 36 via a bridge rectifier 31-34. The voltage across a winding 38, proportional to the output voltage, is rectified and smoothed by a diode 39 and a capacitor 40. The stabilizing arrangement comprises parallel-connected transistors 3, 4 the emitter-collector impedance of which is dependent on the collector current of a transistor 6 amplified by a transistor 7. The transistor 6 is energized by the voltage across the capacitor 40 and a feedback voltage is applied from a tapping on a potential divider comprising resistors 42-44. The emitter voltage is stabilized by a Zener diode 9 and resistor 8. It is stated that the feedback voltage may be derived from the output across terminals 35, 36 and that the load may be connected to the input to the oscillator 2, the feedback voltage being derived from across the load. The starting of the oscillator is facilitated by biasing resistors 28, 29 and a resistor 5 by-passes oscillator current when the transistors 3, 4 are cut-off.
