Abstract
Metal bodies are sprayed with refractory material, the surface of the refractory material is subjected to any necessary mechanical finishing treatment, and an epoxy resin is then applied thereto. The expression "refractory material" is limited to aluminium oxide, zirconium oxides, mixtures of these, and silicon carbide. When the body is of ferrous metal it may first be sprayed with nickel; the refractory material may then be applied by a flame-spraying device, and finally a stick of epoxy resin may be rubbed over the heated surface. The body may then be heated to cure the resin. Examples are given of coating a steel roller, and the grooves in a steel garniture block for a cigarette-making machine.
