885,407. Shoe soles. RIPPLE SOLE CORPORATION. Feb. 27, 1958 [June 21, 1957], No. 6328/58. Addition to 769,945. Class 17(2) The sole claimed in the parent Specification is modified as follows. (1) The ribs 18 which extend downwardly and rearwardly from the sole are bounded by front and rear faces which approach each other at their lower ends so as to provide line contact or very narrow strip-like contact only with the ground. (2) The ribs are curved transversely of the sole. (3) The ribs are provided over a portion of the sole but not over the entire length thereof. The ribs may extend from edge to edge of the sole 14, as in Fig. 2, or may terminate short of the edges. Alternatively a separate series of ribs may extend inwardly from each edge to the longitudinal centre line of the sole and be joined at that line, or be arranged in staggered formation, or the ribs of the two series may be aligned but terminate short of the centre line and a third series of ribs extending across the centre line and terminating short of the sole edges arranged in staggered formation with the other series. The ribs, which have rounded contact edges 24 and blend into the sole, are preferably parallel and of equal radius, but the curvature may be varied in desired areas. The soles, of solid rubber and/or plastic, may include a platform 16 and be secured to the uppers 12 by a cementation process.
