Abstract

885,349. Pipe joints. WILFLEY & SONS Inc., A.R. April 6, 1960 [May 13, 1959], No. 12150/60. Class 99(1). A tubular coupling having an end detachably coupled with a casing outlet 14 of a pump and having an opposite end adapted for connection with discharge piping 28, comprises at least two telescopically joined sections 33, 34 relatively movable one within the other whereby the coupling length may be decreased and increased for facilitating removal of the pump relative to the discharge piping, and means interconnecting the sections and constructed for selective application of separatory force and pulling force to the sections in the longitudinal direction thereof to respectively lengthen and shorten the coupling. As shown, the coupling consists of sleeves 33, 34 having flanges 36, 53 for bolted connection with the discharge pipe 28 and the pump outlet flange 16 respectively, the latter having an annular recess 20 for a packing ring 22, and the sleeve 33 being provided with an adjustable packing gland 48 and lugs formed with arcuate slots 43 through which pass draw-bolts 58 screwed into lugs 56 of the sleeve 34. Removal of the pump is effected by loosening the nuts 62 and then screwing down the nuts 61 on the bolts 58 to thereby draw the sleeve 34 away from the flange 16. A grease channel 44 is provided in the sleeve 33. In a modification the sleeves have rubber linings.
