Abstract
885,284. Nozzles. GUNSON (SEEDS) Ltd., R. W. May 24, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 18266/60. Class 69 (3). An air ejector for use in the sorting machine of Specification 885,283 has a body 80 to which compressed air is fed at 17<SP>1</SP>, and a valve rod 84 supporting an obturating member 94 which, when the valve is closed, is received on a seat 96 and prevents flow from a port 97. Member 94 is connected to a sleeve 93 via one or more springs 95. Springs 89, which are of heavier construction than springs 95, urge the valve to closed position and in so doing a disc 87 on the rod engages a flange 88 on the ejector body with a greater impact than that between the member 94 and its seat. The valve rod is slidably mounted in sleeves 82, 83, the latter having a bore for the compressed-air flow. A former 85 secured to the rear end of the valve rod supports a coil disposed between the poles of a permanent magnet 86, and when the coil is energized the valve is opened. In Fig. 3 the obturating member 100 is slidably mounted in a member 99 on the valve rod and is urged forwardly by a spring 102. In a modification the valve seat is resilient, and rearward movement of the valve rod is limited by a buffer adjustably carried by the magnet.
