885,261. Automatic light intensity control systems. UCLAF. May 2, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1959], No. 15389/60. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] The intensity of the light source of a polarimeter in which for measurement the plane of polarization is oscillated at a frequency f is maintained constant by detecting intensity variations of light transmitted at a frequency 2f. Light passing from the source S to a photomultiplier P.M. is modulated at 50 c.p.s. by a Faraday cell Z. The 100 c.p.s. output of photomultiplier P.M. is rectified in a rectifier T, amplified in a differential amplifier Q and supplied to a motor MF which varies the width of the inlet and outlet slits of the monochromator M to control the light transmitted.
