Abstract

Dyestuffs of the formula:-<FORM:0884842/IV (a)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different unsubstituted or substituted aryl radicals, R3 is hydrogen or an alkyl, aralkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical or a carboxylic acid group or a functional derivative (e.g. a carboxylic acid ester or amide) thereof, and R4 is a carboxylic acid group or a functional derivative thereof, are added to polyamide, polyurethane or aromatic polyester (including polyethylene terephthalate and polycarbonates of 4,41-dihydroxy-diphenylpropane) spinning masses, whereby the fibres or films produced therefrom are dyed.ALSO:Fibrous materials or films of aromatic polyesters (including polycarbonates of 4,41-dihydroxy-diphenyl-propane), polyamides or polyurethanes are dyed or printed with an aqueous bath or paste containing a dyestuff free from sulphonic acid groups, of the formula <FORM:0884842/IV (c)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different unsubstituted or substituted aryl radicals, R3 is hydrogen or an alkyl, aralkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical or a carboxylic acid group or a functional derivative thereof and R4 is a carboxylic acid group or a functional derivative thereof. Dyeing may be effected at 60 DEG C.-130 DEG C., preferably in the presence of an acid. Prints are subsequently heated or steamed at 180 DEG C.-210 DEG C. Levelling and dispersing agents and carriers, several of which are specified, may be added to the dyebath. Examples of dyeing and printing are given. The dyestuffs are made by the action of appropriately substituted 4-formyl-pyrazolones-5 or N,N-disubstituted 4-amino-methylene-pyrazoon appropriately substituted pyrazolones with unsubstituted 4-positions. Numerous dyestuffs are specified in which the radicals R1 and R2 are phenyl-, methyl-phenyl-, chloro-phenyl-, carboxy-phenyl- and sulphonamido-phenyl-, and in which the carboxylic acid functional derivative radicals R3 or R4 are carbomethoxy-, carboethoxy- and carbonamido-.
