Abstract

884,263. Pivots. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND Ltd. April 25, 1960 [Dec. 29, 1959], No. 44127/59. Class 65(2). A screw-threaded pivot member 15, particularly for supporting the rotor or gimbals of a gyroscope, is adjustably positioned in a hole 14 in a supporting structure 11 and a deformable pellet 20 is biased against the thread and thereby formed with a face conforming to the thread. Preferably a second pellet 22 coaxial with the first is also provided. The pellet is located in a hole 19 offset from the axis of the hole 14 and is biased by a screw 21. During assembly the pivot member is first placed in position and the pellet is lightly biased so that final adjustment can be made by screwing the member in the impressed threads in the pellet. Further tightening of the screw 21 clamps the member.
