A split clamping ring for retaining a cover 13 on a container comprises an annular body 21, upper and lower inwardly directed radial flanges 22, 25 for engaging portions of the cover and container to prevent separation of the cover from the container the lower flange including a skirt 27 having circumferentially spaced high points 28 and low points 29 disposed on a plane below that of the high points, said low points compressively and frictionally engaging co-operating portions of the container when the ring is contracted to prevent relative rotation thereof around the container and means 20 (not shown) for drawing the ends of the split ring together to secure said ring on a container and cover assembly. The means 20 is a lever actuated device as disclosed in Specification 657,159. The skirt 27 is of an undulated configuration to provide the high points 28 and low points 29. Corrugations, serrations or flutes can however be provided as alternatives to undulations.
