Class 100(2) A registering device for matrices to be used in casting stereotype printing plates, especially for multi-colour printing, comprises a bed 22 for maintaining the matrix 20 in flat condition while a scriber 198 is used to mark, along the edges of a clamping frame 70, a cutting line 202, Fig. 6 (not shown); The bed 22, Fig. 1, has apertures 84 connected to a vacuum chamber 88 connected by a pipe 98 to a pump 102. The frame 70 has side and rear bars 64 and 66 respectively and is raised to release the matrix by push rods 74 engaging cam-shafts 40 to release the matrix 20. The cam-shafts 40 are coupled by a chain 46, one cam-shaft being driven by a hand-crank, not shown. Registering needles 162 are swung inwardly from the broken line position to the full line position and adjusted to coincide with register marks 188, Fig. 6, (not shown) on the matrix 20, Fig. 1, clamped by the frame 70. Blocks 144 carrying the needles 162 are adjustably clamped to a rod 140, while brackets 130 are adjustably clamped to a shaft 124. The matrix 20 is then removed after marking the cutting line and a further matrix placed on the table 22 and registered by marks 192, Fig. 7 (not shown) which are made to coincide with the previously set needles 162, Fig. 2, prior to forming a cutting line around the matrix. Subsequent matrices are registered for forming cutting lines in the same manner.
