Abstract
883,081. Gates of variable widths. EATON BERRY Ltd. March 17, 1960, No. 9519/60. Class 45. A gate comprises two stiles, 1 and 3, each having a set of parallel tubular bars attached which telescopically engage one another, one set 5 being of equal length and the other set 7 of smaller diameter having three of one length and three of another. The maximum width of the gate is determined by a rod 9 disposed within one of the bars 5 having one end secured to the stile 1 and the other end extending into the interior of an inner bar 7 has a nut, 11, secured to it which engages the inwardly flanged end of the bar 7. Locking means for the gate comprises nuts, 8, welded to one or more of the bars 5 and wing bolts 10 which engage the inner bars 7. The ends of the bars 5 not secured to the stile are maintained correctly spaced by means of a pair of bracing members 13 welded to each bar and additional bracing is provided by the strap 14. The stile 3 is provided with a sliding fastener 15 to co-operate with one of the gate posts and the stile 1 is provided with a plurality of spaced apart holes 16 Fig. 3 (not shown), to receive a pair of eye-bolts by means of which the gate may be pivotally supported.
