Abstract

The invention comprises 1-thiocyano-2,3,4-triacetyl-D -glucuronic acid methyl ester and 1 - isothiocyano - 2,3,4 - triacetyl - D - glucuronic acid methyl ester and the preparation thereof by reacting 1 - bromo - 2,3,4 - triacetyl - D - glucuronic acid with an inorganic thiocyanate. A temperature range of 15 DEG C. to 40 DEG C. favours the formation of the thiocyano compound and a temperature range of 120 DEG C. to 150 DEG C. favours the formation of the isothiocyano compound. The thiocyano compound may also be converted into the isothiocyano compound by heating.
