Abstract

882,323. Insulation for dynamo-electric machines and transformers. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Jan. 30, 1958, No. 3217/58. Classes 35 and 38 (2). The windings of a refrigerator motor or an oil-cooled transformer are insulated solely with a terephthalic acid polyester resin, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, which is stated to have no detrimental reaction with the surrounding halogenated hydrocarbon coolant or lubricant. Preferably it has been freed from monomeric and low molecular weight constituent by artificial ageing, irradiation or solvent extraction. Slot liners and wedges and other layers and spacers may be of the same material, and woven strips of filaments cut thermally may be used.
