Abstract

881,830. Colour television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 5, 1958 [March 5, 1957], No. 7192/57. Class 40(3). Green, red and blue component images of a scene are directed to respective photo-sensitive surfaces 1, 2 and 3 by means of an optical system comprising a pair of beam splitting mirrors 5 and 6, a first lens 7 for focusing the image on surface 1 and a second lens for focusing the images on surfaces 2 and 3. The arrangement may be employed for converting a monochrome camera for use in a colour television system where elements 2-6 are assembled as an adaptor for attachment to the monochrome camera represented by elements 1 and 7. The use of very wide angle lenses may restrict the space available for mirror 6 and associated cameras 2 and 3. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), this limitation is avoided by the use of a relay lens system. Mirrors 5 and 6 may be either achromatic and operated in conjunction with appropriate colour filters in front of the photo-sensitive surfaces, or dichroic. In a further modification (not illustrated in detail), light from the scene may be directed on to mirror 5 in a direction transverse the optical axis between mirrors 5 and 6.
