881,629. Accelerators for unsaturated polyester resins. ELEKTROCHEMISCHE WERKE MUNCHEN A.G. July 8, 1959 [July 10, 1958], No. 23479/59. Class 2(6) The cross-linking and hardening of unsaturated polyester resins and unsaturated monomers in the presence of organic peroxides and a metal compound is accelerated by using a vanadium salt of an inorganic or organic acid or a complex compound of vanadium as the metal compound. The vanadium compound may be vanadyl chloride, vanadyl.p-toluene sulphonate, vanadyl acetate, vanadyl octoate, or vanadyl acetylacetonate preferably dissolved in a solvent such as dimethyl phthalate, isopropanol, styrene, or toluene. Specified peroxides are methylethylketone peroxide, methylamyl ketone peroxide, cyclohexanone peroxide, cumene peroxide, tertbutyl hydroperoxide, tert.-butyl-perbenzoate, 2,2- bio-(tert.-butyl peroxide) butane and dihydroxyheptyl peroxide. In examples 70% by weight of an unsaturated polyester obtained by esterifying 3 mols. of propylene glycol with 1 mol. of maleic acid and 2 mols. of phthalic acid and 30 %of styrene are used as the starting material.
