Abstract
55 to 75 parts by weight of an unsaturated air-drying polyester prepared according to Specification 766,666 from one or more unsaturated dicarboxylic acids and one or more polycyclic polyhydric alcohols, is copolymerized with 25 to 45 parts by weight of a monomeric compound, in the presence of 1 to 5 parts by weight of finely divided silicic acid and 0.05 to 1 part by weight of a wax which is selected from a soft paraffin wax having a melting point of 46 to 54 DEG C. or other waxy substances such as stearates, stearic acid and montan wax, to form an air-drying matt lacquer. The preferred copolymerizable monomeric compounds are styrene and other ethylene derivatives such as vinyl toluene. The wax is preferably added in a solvent such as toluene or styrene. The polymerization mixtures contain the conventional catalysts or accelerators cyclohexanone peroxide, cumene hydroperoxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide or cobalt naphthenate, preferably used in solution.
