Abstract

881,173. Removing waste from die-cut sheets. GOLDING, W. F. Jan. 27, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 3120/59. Class 31 (1). In apparatus for removing waste portions from die-cut sheets of cardboard, e.g. in the manufacture of carton blanks, wherein elements 22 provided on the lower one of a pair of counterrotating rollers 1, 2 operate to pick waste portions 26 from die-cut sheets 24 passed between the rollers, the lower roller 2 comprises a sheet metal jacket 21 wrapped around a cylinder 20 and removably secured thereto, the elements being directly secured to the jacket independently of the cylinder. The elements 22 are in the form of pins riveted in preformed holes in the jacket, the heads 30 of the pins being disposed between the jacket and the cylinder. Rings 23 of resilient material positioned on the jacket co-operate with the roller 1 to feed the sheets. The waste portions 26 impaled on the pins 22 are removed therefrom by means of combing wires 27 extending between the rollers 1, 2 and secured at their ends to fixed bars 28, 29. End portions 41, 42, Fig. 10, of the jacket are pressed against side walls 43, 44 of a recess 45 in the cylinder by means of a wedge 40 which is urged against the bottom of the recess by means of screws 49 to strain the jacket over the cylinder. The upper roller 1 comprises a plurality of wires 7 which are supported at their ends in hubs 8 so as to be in a state of tension.
