Abstract
880,871. Textile drafting mechanism. MACKIE & SONS Ltd., JAMES. April 8, 1958 [April 5, 1957], No. 12252/57. Class 120(2) In apparatus for detecting and correcting for irregularity in the thickness of sliver undergoing drafting having means to delay the correction until the irregularity reaches the drafting zone, which means includes slidable members moving around a path between a setting-member controlled by the sliver-thickness and a transmitter controlling the draft, each slidable member has its position controlled by the setting-member and has a surface inclined at a small angle to the path of sliding-motion which acts directly or indirectly on the transmitter. In Fig. 1, a series of slidable members in the form of wedges 30 is arranged on a drum 31 and can move from side to side parallel to the axis thereof: the drum rotates so that the wedges also move between a setting- member 2 and a transmitter 3. The setting- member comprises two flared plates movable from side to side by a weighted member 21 under the influence of a pivoted bell-crank 14 subject to the relative movement of rollers 11, 12 between which the sliver passes. The transmitter comprises a roller 3 linked to a fork 62 governing the position of a belt 63 on two oppositelydisposed cones 60, 61 for adjusting gearing 65 controlling the draft. As successive wedges pass through the member 2 they are set according to the position of that member and in due course correspondingly influence the transmitter 3 through a corresponding series of rods &c., 34, Fig. 3. Each of these has a recess 35 and is spring-biased so that the upper edge of the recess is held in engagement with the inclined face of the corresponding wedge. In this way the latter is locked in the position in which it is set until it passes the transmitter and reaches a member 49 which restores it to the datum position. To remove the locking effect of the rods 34 while the wedges are being set in the member 2, a camsurface 45 is arranged to engage the inner ends of the rods during this time. The rods are arranged in staggered relationship in two rows and the alternate wedges have their inclined surfaces sloping in opposite directions to ensure that movement of a wedge produces a corresponding movement of its rod irrespective of whether the latter is in one row or the other. In another form the position of the wedges and the rods may be reversed; also the wedges may act directly on the transmitter, for which purpose the outer rim of the drum may be cut away so that the transmitter can contact the inclined surfaces. Specification 27304/11 is referred to.
