880,766. Permanent magnet generators. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. Feb. 11, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 5438/59. Class 35. A tacho-generator for attachment to the axle box of rail vehicles comprises an inductor rotor 4 secured to the vehicle axle 3, and a generating coil 13 between two magnetic plates 10, 11 having relatively staggered teeth co-operating with the rotor teeth. Flux is provided by a sintered magnet 9 secured to a mild-steel plate 8 and returns through the casing. The stator unit is in a resinfilled pocket at the side of the casing and has terminals 14.
