A pin 4 connecting the cutter box 1 of a coal-cutter chain and the adjacent connecting link 2 is retained by end plates 17, 18, secured by respective rivets 8. Alternatively the rivets 8 may be replaced by a single rivet (Fig. 2, not shown) extending the whole length of the pin 4. In another modification (not shown), the plates 17, 18, may be secured to the pin 4 by screws. The pin 4 has a chordal flat 14 to locate it against angular rotation.
