Abstract
L-aspartic acid is prepared by fermenting aspartase-forming bacteria selected from Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megatherium, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli and Aerobacter aerogens in a nutrient medium comprising fumaric acid or a fumarate as the main source of carbon and ammonia or an ammonium salt as the main source of nitrogen, at a temperature of 27-40 DEG C, and isolating the L-aspartic acid produced. The medium may also contain mineral salts such as potassium phosphate, magnesium sulphate and calcium carbonate, and organic nitrogen compounds such as meat extract, yeast extract and peptone; glucose or other sugar may be added.
