880,219. Analogue-to-digital converters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. June 2, 1960 [June 9, 19591, No. 19703/59. Class 40 (1). A circular scale 13 is attached to the movement of an indicating meter for rotation therewith and is provided with angularly spaced digits, and a cogging system 34, 35 exerts a differential torque upon the movement so that the nearest correct digit is displayed. Teeth 34, 35 may be held at different electrical potentials or teeth 34 may pass between the poles of a magnet, the potentials or magnetic field strength being chosen so that the desired torque is exerted. Disc 13 may be transparent or opaque and the digit in the display position may be optically projected on to a glass screen.
