Abstract
1,096,502. Geographical timepieces. BELLIS & MORCOM MANUFACTURING Ltd. Oct.18, 1966 [Nov.2, 1965], No.46276/65. Heading G3T. A timepiece comprises a globe 10 driven at a rate of one revolution in 24 hours about its north pole-south pole axis and a movable cursor 24, the cursor including a pointer 23 which moves over a scale 22 marked in hours so that when the globe is adjusted to bring the cursor into coincidence with a given locality, the relative time at any other place indicated by the cursor may be read off the scale. The globe 10 is driven by a tube 11 connected by gearing 15 to a battery driven or synchronous electric motor or a clockwork motor 12. An opaque hemisphere 18 with its edge held vertically by counterweights 19, 20 is fixed to a gimbal 17 which is supported on a tube 14. The tube 14 is rotated one revolution per year by the motor 12 and a lamp 21 illuminates the transparent globe to show which hemisphere of the globe is in daylight. For absolute accuracy the scale is rotated one revolution per year either manually or by gearing coupled to the motor 12.
