879,966. Emergency escape apparatus for aircraft. MARTIN, J. Jan. 4, 1960 [Jan. 2, 1959], No. 237/59. Class 4. In or for an aircraft seat, an inflatable airman evictor 5 for assisting an airman to extricate himself from an aircraft in which the seat is disposed such evictor 5 being located in, or being adapted to be located in, the seat pan 1 or frame of the aircraft seat in a deflated or partially inflated condition and means being provided for supplying to such evictor 5 pressure gas to expand the evictor, the latter being so constructed or constrained as to expand substantially only in a direction perpendicular to the surface on which it rests and against which it reacts in elevating the airman. Pressure gas to expand the evictor 5 is supplied from two carbon dioxide bottles 10, 11 mounted under the seat pan 1. The handle 18 actuates, by means of a lever 16 and a cable 17, the valves 12 and 13, which, when opened as in Fig. 2, allow the carbon dioxide to be forced into the compartments 6 and 7, separated by a partition 8, of the evictor 5. In alternative forms the evictor may be housed in a suitable jacket and/or may have a number of partitions. Also, a water-sensitive device, located on the outside of the aircraft, may initiate automatically the flow of gas into the evictor 5. Specification 711,234 is referred to.
