879,923. Mineral-mining apparatus. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. Jan. 29, 1958 [Feb. 11, 1957], No. 3021/58. Class 68(1). To allow of control of the collapsing roof 16 of an advancing long wall face 12 of a mineral seam 10, being mined by a plough 11 moving along a face conveyer 13, there is associated with the conveyer means 15 that weakens the roof 16 at 18 at a predetermined distance behind the conveyer 13 so that the roof will then not collapse beyond the slit 18. The roof-weakening means 15 may be an endless chain-carrying jib, a cutter disc or a series of wedges, and the means 15 may be directly mounted on the conveyer, or trailed from the rear of the conveyer.
