Abstract
879,176. Packaging machines. HAYSEEN MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 29, 1959, No. 44062/59. Class 94(1). A packaging machine of the kind which bends a web to tubular form and seals and severs it transversely at intervals to enclose articles or increments of material dropped into the tube, has means to feed the web continuously along the tube former, the opening and closing of the sealing and severing jaws being controlled by advance of the web. The web 20 is forced down the filling and forming tube 16 by a continuously driven resilient roller 44 and is sealed longitudinally by a wheel 43 or, to form a fin seal, by a pair of wheels Fig. 9, (not shown). The sealing and severing jaws 46 are carried on blocks 45 moved in orbital paths in a vertical plane by cranks 52. The cranks 52 are mounted on shafts 28, 57 connected by gearing 54-56, the shaft 28 being driven through a clutch 29 from a constantly driven shaft 30. The web may bear printed markings to determine package lengths. The markings are scanned by photoelectric means 59, the latter controlling operation of the clutch 29 and thus the periods at which the jaws 46 engage the tube and move with it during sealing and severing.
