1381823 Making bags MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd and DAI EI Inc 5 Feb 1973 [7 Feb 1972 27 July 1972(4) 28 July 1972 18 Aug 1972(3) 21 Aug 1972 22 Aug 1972(2) 23 Aug 1972] 5699/73 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A packing apparatus comprises means for producing sacks from a liquid impermeable packing material such as plastics film, means enabling goods to be introduced into each of said sacks, means for sealing the loaded sack adjacent the top thereof to pack the goods, and means for delivering the packed goods. The sacks are produced from rolls of flattened tubular film material 13<SP>1</SP> which passes from the roll between guides 38, 38<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, which open out inwardly folded portions 35 of the material which are gripped by chuck members 40, 41 by which the material is raised a distance L1 after a sealing and severing operation by a sealing means 28. The chuck members 40, 41 are interconnected by a bar 42 for movement on guide posts 43, 50 by means of a chain 44. Each chuck member comprises clamp blocks, the operation of which is controlled by solenoid operated cam end roller mechanism (58, 60, 62, Fig. 10, not shown). The sealing means 28 comprises a heating unit 80, Fig. 16, and a motor driven cutting blade 89 which co-operate with a presser 81 disposed at the opposite face of the material 13<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, (Figs. 27-28, not shown) chuck members (200) are driven through a common drive shaft (206) to lift the tube material to the level of the grippers 37; when the tube is so gripped the chuck members are released and the drive through shaft is reversed and the chuck members are returned to their original positions and re-engage the tube material prior to sealing and cutting of the material.
