Abstract

878,788. Inoculating appliances. ROSENTHAL, S. R. Jan. 6, 1960 [Jan. 15, 1959], No. 440/60. Class 81 (2). An inoculation device comprises a rigid backing member 11 to which is secured a skin puncturing member 16 having needle-like projections 16b for carrying inoculant, and a protective cover 15. The backing member has wings 13, 14 and is made of polystyrene, polyethylene nylon or the substance sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Teflon." The cover 15 is made of transparent moulded synthetic plastic and is removably secured to the backing member by pressing its edge into a groove 12c in the backing member. The projections 16b are punched out of a thin metal plate 16 having tongues 16a which are secured to the backing member in slots (not shown), recesses 12d or by rivets (not shown). Before fixing the cover the projections are dipped into inoculant which is then dried or freeze dried upon them, the projections being perforated, scratched or pitted so that they retain the dried inoculant. In use the cover is removed and the inoculant-carrying projections are pressed into the skin.
