878,784. Cast wheels; disc brakes. KLAUE, H. July 29, 1959, No. 26082/59. Classes 103 (1) and 144 (1). A cast metal wheel comprises a wheel body spider 6 and a housing 7 serving as a stator for a multi-disc brake, each integral with a common hub 6a, the housing 7 having radial reinforcing ribs 8 formed thereon between the spoke arms 5 to act as a fan during rotation of the wheel and induce an air-flow through the wheel from the outside thereof to cool the brake. As shown, the wheel comprises a rim 2 detachably clamped to the spoke arms 5. The brake housing 7 comprises a drum which has a cover 9 screwed to its open end to define an annular radially-inwardly opening trough housing brake discs 11, 12 which are coupled to the wheel axles 17. The discs 11, 12 are relatively axially displaceable on relative rotation by the known means of a ball 13 cooperating with wedge surfaces on the discs, the radial surfaces of the housing 7 and cover 9 serving as the brake stators.
