Abstract

A particulate puncture-sealant composition for use in a tubeless pneumatic tyre casing provided with an integral p air-retaining liner comprises, in admixture, 5-75 parts by weight of carbon black, e.g. acetylene black, and 95-25 parts of vulcanized rubber particles of varying sizes with the range 6-200 mesh, U.S. Standard, comprising 20%-80% by weight non-black stock, e.g. white sidewall stock buffings, comminuted rubber bands, fragmented vulcanized gum rubber, and 80%-20% black stock, e.g. vulcanized black rubber abrasions, tread raspings. The rubber particles may be obtained from scrap rubber, which may be natural, GR-S, butyl or polychloroprene based, and at least part, e.g. 10%-50%, of the particles is subjected to an oxidizing treatment, e.g. heating to 150 DEG -300 DEG F. for from 5 hours to 2 days, before being incorporated in the sealant composition, which may additionally include, if desired, a thermosetting, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde or thermoplastic resin.
