Abstract

753,963. Pneumatic tyres. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. Aug. 24, 1954 [Nov. 6, 1953], No. 24631/54. Class 144 (2). In a tyre cover constructed as described in Specifications 700,435 and 726,810, a shockabsorbing rubber layer 6 is incorporated between the tread 2 and the reinforcing or breaker plies 3 and/or between the breaker plies 3 and the carcase plies 1, the layer 6 having a low tangential modulus of elasticity, such as less than 5 Kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>, and preferably a relatively high hysteresis loss coefficient such as higher than 0.5 Joules/cm.<SP>3</SP>. Where a shock absorbing layer is incorporated between the breaker and the carcase it may comprise two triangular-section bands located below the marginal portions of the breaker. The layer or layers 6 may be produced by using, in the buildup of the tyre, a vulcanizable rubber mix containing an ingredient which reacts under the heat of vulcanization to produce a gas resulting in a sponge rubber having a tangential modulus of elasticity of the order of 1 to 3 Kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>. The mean thickness of the shock-absorbing layer 6 may be from 2 mm. to 10 mm.
