Abstract

An extra layer of reinforcing fabric is interposed in a tyre body between the main carcass plies and an ancillary ply reinforcing the internal face of the sidewall. The intermediate layer has a relatively high cord density (no. of cords per unit width of fabric). Esp. suitable for tyres having steel cord radial carcass plies, to inhibit distortion damage to the sidewall structure as the tyre is converted from a flat cylindrical form to a toroidal form during fabrication and vulcanisation. For military tyres, the fine, dense intermediate fabric minimises the effect on the fraying of the major plies of bullets passing through the tyre.
