Abstract

A vulcanizable rubber composition comprises a butyl rubber, a halogenated butyl rubber, a highly unsaturated rubbery copolymer of a conjugated diolefin with styrene, and a 2, 6-dimethylol-4-hydrocarbon substituted phenol which may be in the monocyclic or multicyclic (polymeric) state. The halogenated butyl rubber may be a chlorinated or a brominated rubber. Unsaturated diene/styrene rubbers specified are hot GR-S, low temperature GR-S and oil-extended GR-S. In examples, the compounding ingredients used are carbon black, pigments, zinc oxide, stearic acid, oils, accelerators and sulphur. The compositions find application in the manufacture of pneumatic tyres, e.g. the tread portion.
