An apparatus for applying deformable metal closures to containers and incorporating a pressure-block 5, 6, 7 for applying axial pressure to the closure while the skirt thereof is being deformed into contact with threads or similar formations on the container neck is characterised in that the block comprises two rigid members 5, 7 bonded together by a rubber or rubberlike element 6 so that relative tilting between the members may occur during the application of pressure. The members 1, for deforming the skirt, are conventional spinning tools carried by arms 3.
