Abstract

877,152. Friction clutches. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. March 9, 1959 [March 13, 1958], No. 8132/59. Class 80 (2). In a friction clutch a driven plate 8 is clamped between a driving flywheel 1 and a presser plate 7 which comprises two axially aligned parts 14, 16 connected with axial lost motion by rivets 27 and urged apart by light springs 23 whilst disengaged so that during engagement the forward part 14 initially engages the driven plate 8 and thereafter the rear part 16 is moved into engagement with the part 14 through heavy clutch springs 6. The clutch is disengaged by release levers 12 pivoted on the casing 3 and connected to the rear part 16 of the presser plate. A heat-insulating washer 24 is interposed between the spring 23 and forward part 14 of the presser plate.
