Abstract

1474273 Friction clutches AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 8 July 1975 [25 July 1974] 32983/74 Heading F2C In a friction clutch in which a driven plate 13 is clamped between a presser plate 14 and a flywheel 11 by a Belleville spring 15, additional spring means (24, Fig. 1, 34, Fig. 2) are provided which act on the presser plate 14 and have a spring force which increases progressively as the clutch is disengaged. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the additional springs are helical and act between the flywheel and the clutch cover 17, surrounding spacers 19 through which pass bolts 18, securing the cover 17 and straps 21 interconnecting the presser plate and flywheel, to the presser plate 17. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 the additional spring means are leaf springs provided by the straps 21 with a fulcrum 38 on a strip 34. The additional springs prevent the spring force on the presser plate 14 from reducing as the clutch is disengaged and consequently prevents the presser plate tilting. The release means for the clutch are operated by a release bearing 23. The release bearing acts on a thrust plate 22 connected to the clutch cover, which is rigidly connected to the presser plate.
