Abstract
L-Glutamic acid is produced by cultivating a strain of Brevibacterium divaricatum under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing an assimilable carbon source, an assimilable nitrogen source and assimilable inorganic metal salts. The carbon source is preferably a carbohydrate. The nitrogen source may be urea, casein hydrolysate, peptone, corn steep liquor, meat extract, yeast extract, bran extract or inorganic or organic ammonium salts. The inorganic salts are preferably provided by a combination of potassium, magnesium and phosphate ions. A preferred strain of B. divaricatum is NRRL.B-2312.
