Abstract

876,935. Dynamo electric machines; automatic voltage-control systems; inductances. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1958 [Oct. 28, 1957], No. 33584/57. Classes 35, 38(2) and 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXIX] To control the voltage of an alternator, its field 18 (Fig. 3) is supplied from the alternator voltage through an air-gapped saturable reactor 15 in parallel with current transformer 17 supplied from the alternator load current. The D.C. saturating winding of the reactor is supplied from a voltage regulator 16. The arrangement is applicable to multi-phase circuits. The core of the saturable reactor may be made of rectangular stampings of grain oriented steel interleaved at the corners 7 and 8 (Fig. 2) as shown dotted. The top yoke 4 may be removed to adjust the air gap 3 in which a non-magnetic spacer of suitable thickness is fitted before the yoke is replaced. Specification 764,035 is referred to.
