Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula:- <FORM:0876632/IV(c)/1> where one Y is H and the other SO3H, X is H or OAlk and Z is Hlg. The dyes are made by reacting substantially equimolar quantities of a cyanuric halide with the appropriate aminoazo dye. Preferably the alkoxy group has 1-4 C atoms, methoxy and ethoxy groups being particularly preferred. Z is specified as Br or Cl the latter being preferred. The dyes may be used for colouring proteinaceous materials, e.g. wool, silk, leather, polyamides and modified polyacrylonitriles, preferably from dye-baths containing acid-binding agents but are especially of value in colouring cellulosic materials when applied in conjunction with treatment with an acid-binding agent. An example is provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing cellulosic fibres in yellow and reddishyellow shades.
