Abstract
876,479. Electromagnetic relays; switch contacts. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Sept. 30, 1957 [June 13, 1957], No. 30576/57. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electromagnetic relay comprises casing members 22, 24 which are secured together by means of a stem 26 having a head 28 and being retained by a fastener 30. An insulating sleeve 34 is slidable along stem 26, and a plunger 40 of magnetic material is slidable on the sleeve. A compression spring 46 biases the plunger 40 against a flange 38 on the sleeve 34, and also biases a contact bridge member 42 against flange 36. Energization of coil 50 causes the plunger to compress the spring whereby the member 42 is raised and contacts 52, 54 are engaged with fixed contacts 56, 58, respectively, the contacting surfaces of the movable contacts being curved about an axis perpendicular to the axis of curvature of the fixed contacts whereby single-point engagement is made. The fixed contacts are carried by terminals 60, 62, the terminal 60 having an aperture 64 within which a projection 66 is disposed. This projection is carried by member 24 and extends from a guideway provided by the interfitting surfaces of members 22, 24, through aperture 64, and into a recess 70 in the member 22. The guideway includes side-walls 72 which interfit with side portions of terminal 60, and the upper and lower surfaces 76, 74 of the guideway co-operate with the adjacent portions of the terminal. The terminal 62 is secured in a similar manner and has a portion 90 provided with a threaded aperture 96 for the reception of a lead-securing screw. The part 90 also has a leg which is adapted to engage slot 88. As shown, a ferrule 98, secured to a lead 100, is welded to the protruding end of terminal 60. This terminal, however, may be formed in the same maner as the terminal 62. An additional terminal 102 is provided with head 104 which lies in recesses communicating with slots 110, 112. Projections 118 are engageable with and guide the contact bridge 42, whilst projections 120, 122 interfit with slots 124, 126, respectively. Shoulder members 128, 130 aid in retaining the coil 50, a relieved portion 134 being adapted to receive one of the end-turns of the coil.
